Contingency Element Type: VSC DC Line

The following describes the options available when creating a contingency element of type VSC DC Line (Voltage Source Converter). Contingency elements are created from the Contingency Element Dialog, and additional details of how to create contingency elements can be found here.

 

Action Settings

Open

The Open action will set the Status of the selected VSC DC line to Open. If the VSC DC line is already open, this action does nothing.

Close

The Close action will set the status of the selected VSC DC line to Closed. When selecting the Close action, the Amount must be specified for the new Setpoint of the VSC DC line in MW. Either the From or To Converter must be configured to a DC Setpoint mode of Power. The converter which is set to the power mode will have its setpoint changed.

Set To

The Set To action will set the selected VSC DC line’s Setpoint or resistance to a specified Amount. The Setpoint can be set in Percent or MW. When the VSC DC line’s Setpoint is set in Percent, the Setpoint is set to the specified percentage of the contingency reference state Power Setpoint of the line. If the status is presently Open, the resulting Setpoint will be 0 regardless of the Amount entered. Either the From or To Converter must be configured to a DC Setpoint mode of Power. The converter which is set to the power mode will have its setpoint changed.

The R (Ohms) setting will change the dc line's resistance to the specified Amount in ohms.

Change By

The Change By action will change the selected VSC DC line’s Setpoint or resistance to a specified Amount. The Setpoint can be set in Percent or MW. When the VSC DC line’s Setpoint is set in Percent, the Setpoint is set to the specified percentage of the contingency reference state Power Setpoint of the line. If the status is presently Open, the resulting Setpoint will be 0 regardless of the Amount entered. Either the From or To Converter must be configured to a DC Setpoint mode of Power. The converter which is set to the power mode will have its setpoint changed.
